Chapter 1.6 “In 1960, the fantasy author Fritz Leiber proposed adapting his inventing world of Nehwon for a ‘a war game, of course with heroes and sorcerers, citadels and swords’ – and even sketches a simple chess-based system before encouraging readers to ‘make their own war game.' ” .. Like some many things in American science fiction, Edgar Rice Burroughs was the true pioneer. In 1922, the appendix of The Chessman of Mars: .. “ FOR those who care for such things, and would like to try the game, I give the rules of Jetan as they were given me by John Carter.
